By definition HASHEM is perfect in all manners of perfection(Derech HASHEM by RAMCHAL).Therefore to emulate HASHEM man must be perfect;and this will create a spiritual closeness to HASHEM(eg similarity)Thus lifes' ups are worlds of ostensibly closeness/perfection. And lifes' downs are periods of hidenness (until the extreme state where one has only HASHEM to seek for help to get the process moving back to the other extreme-up)The realization that this process is a world of hiding and revealing perfection is what HASHEM wants us to KNOW/BELEIVE/HAVE TRUST.

The RAMCHAL in sefer" derech of understanding"(his sefer on how to learn gemara) refers to learning as maasah u matan(the words also used to mean one's "PARNASSAH")from this we see that the REAL source of "PARNASSAH" is ones effort in gemara. The actual profession(docotor,lawyer,engineer,...) is only a metaphor of how HASHEM puts the bracha in your life.
